Florida fishing dispute leads to violent crime charges

A former assistant coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was recently arrested after an altercation with three boys. Police are still investigating the series of events that led the 48-year-old man to allegedly assault at least one boy, and additional charges could follow. The story is an example of how quickly a disagreement between parties can lead to an incident that results in violent crime charges.

Police believe that the man observed three boys fishing near his home in Defuniak Springs, Florida. When he confronted them about the beach chairs that they were using while fishing, the interaction became heated. The police report indicates that the former assistant Bucs coach grabbed a fishing pole used by one of the boys and then threw it into the body of water.

The report indicates that the alleged victim claims that the man assaulted him, then stated that if the boy spoke about the incident, the man would kill the boy's family. As a result, the man was arrested and charged with battery causing bodily harm. He was released on bond approximately one hour after his arrest.

The former Bucs assistant coach is now an offensive line coach for the Bills. There is no word on whether his arrest will affect his employment with the Bills. It is important to note that when an altercation takes place, the situation can quickly escalate and lead to violent crime charges. These charges are often dropped upon completion of a criminal investigation or are proved to be unfounded once the matter goes before a Florida criminal court. It is too soon to tell if that may be the outcome in this case, but many in the state will follow the case to its conclusion.
