Florida man charged with DUI after police stop him for flat tire

The circumstances surrounding a recent arrest in Miami-Dade County has left a lot of unanswered questions for not only the 37-year-old man who was arrested but readers of our blog who could find themselves -- or may have already -- in a situation like this.

According to a report issued by the Florida Highway Patrol, the 37-year-old man drew the attention of police officers on the Florida Turnpike because he had a flat tire. When deputies from the highway patrol arrived, they say that Miramar police were already on scene and had already placed the man in handcuffs.

Police claim that the man did poorly during field sobriety tests and was arrested at that time. While reports indicate that a field sobriety test was initiated at the time of the traffic stop, it does not indicate if the man was given a Breathalyzer or if blood tests confirmed a blood-alcohol level that was over the legal limit.

As some of our readers may know, certain medications and some medical conditions can mimic the symptoms of intoxication and have been known to cause drivers to fail field sobriety tests despite not having any alcohol in their systems. Though it’s unknown if these are the circumstances in this particular case, it’s worth mentioning to our readers in case they too have found themselves in a similar situation.

As for the 37-year-old man in this case, he has been charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license. It’s unclear if he remains in police custody at this time or whether he has received a date to appear in court.
