3 accused of committing drug crimes in Florida

Drug charges have been filed against three individuals in Florida. Police arrested the three individuals -- one man and two women -- after reportedly finding drugs in their vehicle. When people are accused of committing drug crimes, they are presumed innocent unless and until their guilt is proved in a court of law.

Police said they noticed that the vehicle in which the three were riding had faulty equipment, which is why they pulled the car over. As they spoke to the passengers and the driver, they reportedly learned that marijuana was inside the car. That is when police began to search the car.

Police said, following the vehicle search, they found crystal methamphetamine and marijuana. They also allegedly found digital scales, a butane torch, a ledger of sales, a meth pipe and a firearm. The three individuals now face several charges; these charges include possessing a firearm while committing a felony, intending to sell a drug and possessing drug paraphernalia.

Individuals who are believed to have committed drug crimes have the right to proceed to trial to vigorously fight their charges. At trial, the prosecution has to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt before a conviction can occur. This standard exists in an effort to keep innocent individuals from being found guilty of criminal activity in which they did not engage. Instead of going to trial, a defendant may choose to pursue negotiations for a plea agreement, if one is offered. A thorough analysis of the evidence that the prosecution plans to provide to support the allegations may very well be a chief area of focus for defense counsel in determining how best to proceed before a Florida court.
