Florida man convicted on four of five charges related to homicide

Most Florida residents have probably heard about the case of the man who shot the teenage boy at a gas station. The man was facing five charges in connection with that event.

The incident occurred on Nov. 23, 2012, when the man stopped at a gas station. An SUV full of teenage boys was at the gas station. They were playing rap music loudly. The man asked them to turn it down. They didn't. The events that followed are still up for debate. In the end, the man shot 10 bullets at the SUV.

A jury has convicted him of four counts related to the violent crime. The judge declared a mistrial on the first-degree murder charge. He was convicted on three counts of second-degree attempted murder and a charge related to firing his gun into the vehicle.

It took the jury around 30 hours to reach the decision on the convictions. Despite the mistrial on the murder conviction, the jury says they wanted to come to a decision about it but were unable to do so.

The 47-year-old man is facing a lengthy prison sentence on the charges he was convicted of by the jury. Each count of second-degree attempted murder has a minimum sentence of at least 20 years. The remaining conviction has a possible 15-year sentence.

The defendant in this case was facing serious charges. While he has been convicted of four of those, he might choose to appeal the conviction. It is important for him to understand his right to appeal and how to appeal if he chooses to do so. Seeking advice from a Florida criminal defense attorney might help him to understand it all.
