Florida woman in Porsche kills two, charged with manslaughter

A Florida woman has been charged with DUI manslaughter, unlawful-blood-alcohol-level manslaughter, DUI with property damage, and unlawful-blood-alcohol-level property damage, according to the Sun Sentinel. It appears the 22 year-old woman was attempting to make a turn when she lost control of her mother's 2012 Porsche Panamera. The vehicle sped off the roadway and hit two men who were having a conversation in the parking lot. One man died at the scene, the other, who was dragged by the vehicle, died later at a local hospital.

In Florida, it is illegal to operate a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Drivers with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08 or higher are in violation of this law and can be charged with drunk driving. In this accident, the driver had a BAC of 0.17, well above the legal limit. If convicted, the driver can face jail time, monetary penalties and driver's license suspension. The severity of penalties increases if an accident led to injuries or death, as was the case here.

A DUI conviction results in a criminal record. This can lead to difficulties finding employment or housing, since those convicted of DUI crimes often have to disclose this conviction on applications. Those charged with a DUI crime should contact a DUI defense lawyer to discuss their legal options.
